Welcome to Harlem: Harlem Travel Guide

Harlem Travel Guide

Greetings!

In 2008 New York City attracted an estimated 47 million visitors and $30 billion in total spending, both record highs. Did your business get its fair share if the tourists' spend? Did you see an increase in your customer count? In spite of a world of economic challenges, we can help you realize the potential of the tens of millions of visitors that come to our city. Though they may have some idea of Harlem - often an inaccurate one - we can help you present the image and attract the business that should be part and parcel of the Harlem experience.

We are Welcome to Harlem, Inc.

We started in 2005 as both an online community for Harlem residents and visitors and a convenient, cost-effective advertising channel for local businesses and organizations. Now we're ready for the second tier of our venture and one that can mean additional exposure and income for you. We're putting together a guidebook specifically devoted to Harlem and what our unique community has to offer. And because you're an integral part of Harlem, you're also an integral part of this process. This book is about you, so we're gathering and updating information that will showcase you and your service, product or other business to everyone who visits.

Maybe you're already a part of our online business directory. If so, we ask that you check your information for accuracy and submit any necessary updates. If you haven't taken advantage of our comprehensive listing and are not yet a member of our online business directory, we ask that you fill in the attached form so that you can be included. There is no fee to be listed in the guide. If you want to go a step further, you can include a coupon promoting your business for a nominal charge. The information for coupon submission will be available soon.

What we'll need from you:
  1. Check for accuracy and submit any updates.
  2. Check to see if you are listed in our business directory.
  3. Let us know if you'd like to use your online business description in the guide.
  4. If you're not already listed, please complete the appropriate form or submit the information online to use.
  5. Include a photograph of your establishment (see attached forms for guidelines).
  6. Let us know about any seasonal or yearly events, i.e., Harlem Book Fair, Annual Three Kings Day Festival.
  7. Review your favorite places to dine, shop, and visit in Harlem and share your thoughts on why Harlem is a special place to live and to visit.

If you are a restaurant, bar, lounge, boutique, bakery, church, bookstore, museum or gallery, this is for you. If you offer lodging, live entertainment, films, performing arts, comedy, spoken word or karaoke, don't be left out. We also want to list such services as transportation, internet access, Wi-Fi, parking, postal services, specialty shops, tours, spa and salon and more.

Our guidebook will also feature site maps that indicate the locations of a number of Harlem hotspots. Space on the map is limited, so establishments will be included on a first come, first served basis. If you want the address of your business spotlighted on the map, please don't hesitate in enrolling as one of our valued participants.

As a bonus, if you add our link www.welcometoharlem.com to your website, we will offer you a six month rotating banner on our website. And remember, we have online calendars where you can enter your events for free. What better way to inform the community, both at home and abroad?

The only thing standing between your business and a global audience is a few minutes of your time. Please take a moment and submit your information by February 28, 2009. It has been our pleasure to be a part of Harlem life over the past three years. We hope you'll join us in our new and expanded endeavor to promote Harlem to our fellow citizens around the world.

All the forms are available online at www.welcometoharlem.com under contact us. To respond, you can submit the information online or download the appropriate forms and drop them by our office located at 2360 8th Avenue, New York, email to info@welcometoharlem.com or fax to (646) 216-8644.

We look forward to having you join us. In the meantime, have a glorious and successful New Year!

Sincerely,

Carolyn Johnson
